VENUE: Old Town Temecula Community Theater
Revitalizing the vibrant son jarocho tradition hailing from Veracruz, Mexico, Conjunto Jardín showcases the remarkable talents of sisters Libby and Cindy Harding. They masterfully wield the traditional jarana, a compact strummed rhythm guitar, and the requinto, a 4-string lead guitar plucked with a long bone pua or pick. Their harmonious sibling vocals soar above the vigorous jaranas, propelled by a dynamic cajón-and-bass rhythm section and resonant harp-like keyboards, forging a contemporary yet authentically traditional sound. Infused with a rock-inspired energy and approachable allure, Conjunto Jardín’s music captivates listeners with its distinctive flair. Adding to the ensemble’s dynamic presence, guest dancer Delilah Vasquez, improvises percussive zapateado footwork, further enriching their performances. Notably, the group earned a nomination for Best Latin/Salsa Artist at the 2003 L.A. Weekly Music Awards and received an esteemed L.A. Treasures Award from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.” Conjunto Jardín… is built around the convincing, traditional-styled singing and playing of sisters Libby and Cindy Harding. Their music… almost instantly generating dancing in the aisles…. It was a superb example of the manner in which traditional music and dance continue to have the power to reach out and gather in new, receptive audiences.” – Don Heckman, Los Angeles Times Check out their website here and a promotional video!
